For over a century, the landscape of western Colorado’s Grand Valley has produced some of the best tasting fruits in the world. Plum Daisy Kitchen where we make our jams and wine jellies is located in the heart of this historic fruit growing country—Palisade, Colorado. This small community is most famous for its “Palisade Peaches,” but it also yields superlative tasting apples, apricots, cherries, pears, and plums. The water that helps to grow such sweet, moist fruit comes from snowmelt off of one of the world’s highest landscapes—the Colorado Rocky Mountains
Commercially produced jams and jellies generally use fruits that are picked green and shipped from perhaps hundreds of miles away to the location where they are made. The fruit never ripens fully in transit, and the jam manufacturer must add a variety of sugars to mask the lack of true flavor.
Colorado Mountain Fine Jams & Jellies begin with organic fruit that is fully ripened and brimming with characteristic fruit flavor at harvest. We add only a minimum of organic evaporated cane juice, pectin, and sometimes flavor-enhancing spices to the jams, and cook the fruit down in small batches. This careful process produces jams that are richer, fuller, warmer, and more satisfying to the taste than commercially manufactured jams.
The classic, old-fashioned jams bring enjoyment on many levels. Their rich colors reflect the natural colors of the fruit. They have real nutritional value unlike the majority of jams on supermarket shelves. The flavors are complex—from the tender, delicate flavors of the Crabapple Jelly and Organic Pear Jam to the bold and lively flavors of Organic Ginger Peach and Organic Apricot Jalapeno Jams. The textures are intriguing—from chunky Organic Apple Pie Jam to velvety smooth Organic Plum Jam.
And their culinary uses are as varied as the cook’s imagination. The jams can agreeably complement meals from breakfast through dinner. The Organic Apple Pie Jam is just as satisfying with morning oatmeal as it is with evening ice cream. The Peach Jalapeno Jam makes a wonderful glaze for meats. The Organic Spiced Plum Jam admirably enhances pork and chicken when served simply alongside the meats as a condiment.
